Murrang Earth Sciences was engaged as an expert witness for legal proceedings concerning the proposed Fingerboards mineral sands mine in Victoria. We provided specialist review of the project’s Environmental Effects Statement, focusing on the geochemistry, fate, and transport of contaminants of concern in mine tailings. The work involved critical technical assessment, preparation of detailed expert witness statements, and participation in cross-examination during court proceedings. The case resulted in a rare ministerial decision deeming the mine proposal unacceptable under Victorian Environment Effects legislation, marking a significant environmental and legal precedent.
