Reusing soil waste for agri-environmental benefits

There are a range of wastes that have or potentially have benefit for agricultural production; and that may reduce our reliance on synthetic fertilisers. A farming operation in southern NSW was interested in reusing drillers mud on their soils. As part of approval procedures, our clients were required to submit an impact assessment to the NSW Environmental Protection Authority.

Murrang were engaged to design a study to determine potential chemical and physical impacts of the drilling mud on the soil. We evaluated potential impacts on soil properties such as dispersivity, salinity and water holding capacity. Our assessment enabled our client to make key decisions in relation to reuse of drillers mud on their soils.
